It is with great sadness that the West Essex committee must announce the passing of long time DA camper, former committee member and past D.A. Chair Wol Bailey last week.
Wol, bought his first caravan back in 1977 with his wife Ann, and after a recommendation from a colleague, joined the club and started camping with West Essex DA.
The more Wol camped, the more involved with the DA he became. First stewarding, then on the committee, first as general members and then progressing through roles. Over the years he (and Ann!) covered various positions such as social secretary, minutes secretary, rep to region, vice chair and chair for four years, before finally stepping down from the committee in 2015.
Many people will have memories of Wol on the camping field, explaining the roles of “blue & pink” jobs and helping the new, green, inexperienced camper with that ever dreaded first time awning erection or will have taken part in one of the many activities he organised, or been to a meet he stewarded.
Our thoughts are with Ann and his family at this sad time.
Wol’s funeral will be held at 11.30am on 20th May at Chelmsford Crematorium. All are welcome to attend. The family have asked that you let them know if you are going so, they know numbers and have asked everyone to wear bright colours.
